NEWS DESK

US-Bangla Group is planning to set up a temporary hospital in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj to treat coronavirus patients from the nearby areas.

Its Managing Director Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

The hospital will be set up on the main campus of Green University of Bangladesh, which is located in the upazila's Kanchan municipality.

The hospital will take up a 42,000 square feet space on the ground floor of the university.

Temporary sheds will be set up in the nearby empty fields to house and treat patients as well.

Abdullah Al Mamun said, "There is a full-fledged medical college of US-Bangla Group in Rupganj. Doctors, nurses as well as 200 beds from that hospital will be used to treat coronavirus patients in this temporary hospital."

We will increase the capacity of the temporary hospital from 200 beds to 500 if necessary, he said.

"Preparations are underway to purchase the essentials needed to increase the bed capacity. The temporary hospital will be set up so that people in Narayanganj, Rupganj, Araihazar, Narsingdi, Bhairab and nearby areas can get treatment in the least amount of time without any cost," Mamun said.

He also said the US-Bangla Group is preparing to talk to the authorities concerned for permissions required to set up the temporary hospital.

Necessary steps will be taken to set up the hospital at the earliest after reviewing this week's coronavirus situation, added Mamun.
