Fires set at 4 Netrokona polling centres overnight
Fires have been set overnight at four polling centres in Netrokona’s Sadar and Purbadhala Upazilas.
The incidents occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, according to Netrokona Superintendent of Police Md Tarikul Islam.
The fires were set at the Netrokona Sadar’s Parla Government Primary School, Bamonmoha Government Primary School, Nurpur Sreedharpur Government Primary School, and Hogla Government Primary School in Purbadhala.
The attacks took place between 2am on Tuesday and the early morning, said officer Tarikul.
The arsonists reportedly poured kerosene or petrol onto burlap sacks, set them on fire, and threw them into the schools.
There, however, was no significant damage. An investigation has been launched into the incidents and those involved will be identified and brought to justice, he added.
Law enforcers have been deployed at the centres and voters will be able to vote freely on election day, the police superintendent said. Necessary measures have been taken in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner Saifur Rahman and Tarikul visited the Parla Government Primary School scene on Tuesday afternoon to inspect the damage.
