Utility services to be cut for harassing COVID-19 patients: Ministry

Electricity and gas connections of the houses will be severed if landlords harass coronavirus-infected patients or doctors, nurses, health workers, emergency service workers or journalists or anyone staying in home-quarantine.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources took the decision on Monday.

Doctors, nurses, health workers and other persons concerned have been providing services as per directives of the government so that coronavirus could not spread across the country,

“But it’s heard that some of the house owners are harassing them for vacating their rented houses which is unfortunate and inhumane.”

It is the moral and humane duty to stand beside the service providers and coronavirus-infected people, it said.

The ministry urged people to contact the control rooms of the electricity and gas distribution companies concerned to lodge complaints against the house owners.
