Mayor Taposh asks waste collectors not to charge over Tk100 monthly

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has instructed the Primary Waste Service Collectors (PCSPs) not to charge more than Tk100 per month from any household for waste collection.

“We have fixed a monthly rate for wastage collection…no PCSP can charge more than Tk100 monthly from any house,” he said.

The DSCC mayor gave these instructions while participating in the “Open Discussion on PCSP” at the Mayor Hanif Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban on Monday, said a press release.

“A large section of Dhaka residents are still accustomed to dumping waste in the open places,” he said adding, “Dhaka is a capital city and as a capital city, its dignity and respect must be realized and therefore, these rules (a new form of waste management) have to be followed properly.”

“We have set up a new waste management schedule in a very planned manner and all have to follow our schedule properly and motivate others to follow that schedule,” he said.

The mayor vowed to transfer the Intermediate Waste Transfer Center (STS) to each ward by 2021.

DSCC Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore ABM Amin Ullah Noori and chief executive officer of DSCC also spoke at the discussion.
