JS passes Christian Religious Welfare Trust Bill, 2018

The Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday passed the "Christian Religious Welfare Trust Bill, 2018" unanimously by voice votes.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman moved the bill in the House with Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the Chair.

Piloting the bill, he said the proposed bill would help establishing a peaceful society maintaining the communal harmony including welfare of the Christian community living in the country.

The Minister said the effectiveness of the Christian Religious Welfare Trust Ordinance, 1983 was abolished with declaration of the constitution (seventh amendment) act, 1986 illegal.

Earlier, the government has finalized the draft on the "Christian Religious Trust Bill, 2018" amending the Christian Religious Welfare Trust Ordinance, 1983 and has already been recommended by the President, he added.
