Huge numbers of devotees attend Tarabi prayers defying govt directives

Many mosques in the capital didn't follow the government directives to allow maximum 20 people in Tarabi prayers.

Most of the mosques in Dhaka city were seen filled with worshippers during Tarabi prayers. Social distancing was not maintained and many were not wearing masks.

Earlier on April 12, Religious Affairs Ministry instructed that a maximum of 20 people, including the khatib, imam, hafez, muezzin and khadim, can attend Tarabi prayers at a mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a circular, the ministry also said that a maximum of 20 devotees can participate in the five daily prayers in the mosque.

The directives were issued in a bid to contain Coronavirus infection in the country.
