Senior lawyer Abdul Baset Majumder passes away


Senior lawyer of Supreme Court Abdul Baset Majumder passed away at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday morning, at the age of 83.

Abdul Baset, who was on life support at the United Hospital, breathed his last around 8:00 am, confirmed Advocate Rafsan Alvi.

The renowned lawyer, former vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council and former president and general secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association, had been suffering from various old age complications.

Also a member of Awami League Advisory Council, Baset was admitted to the hospital on September 30 and put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the demise of the eminent lawyer.

Abdul Baset Majumder was born in Cumilla’s Laksam on January 1, 1938.

He was enrolled as an advocate in 1966 and subsequently awarded permission to practice in the High Court Division in 1967.
