90 lakh litre diesel imported first day through India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline
As many as 90 lakh litre diesel has been imported first day through India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.
Diesel import has started through the pipeline on Saturday.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the pipeline meant for supplying diesel.
On the inaugural day, the amount of diesel has been imported from India’s Numaligarh to Bangladesh’s Parbatipur depot.
Tipu Sultan, an official of the pipeline, confirmed the news.
The imported diesel will be supplied to 16 districts in Bangladesh.
Before launching the pipeline, diesel was being imported from India to Bangladesh through rail tanker.
Focusing on the inauguration, the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi were decorated from Parbatipur Receipt Terminal Intersection to various roads of the city.
To provide fuel to northern region of the country, PM Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of this project at Siliguri Junction railway station through video conferencing on September 18, 2018. Although it was scheduled to complete the work of this project in June, 2022, the same did not happen due to Covid-19.
