Russia to provide 30,000mt cost-free fertiliser to Bangladesh


Russia has announced supplying 30,000 metric tonnes(MT) Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertiliser to Bangladesh free of cost as part of friendship and deep sincerity between the two countries.

Russian second largest ammonia and nitrogen fertiliser manufacturing company Uralchem group's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dmitry Konyaev in a letter informed the agriculture ministry, an official release said on Thursday.

Uralchem works for ensuring global food security.

Acting ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Ekaterina Semenova formally handed over the letter to Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury here on Wednesday.

The fertiliser will be supplied free of cost under the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, the release added.

In 2013, Uralkali PJSC, a Russia-based one of the world's leading producers and exporters of potash fertiliser, also supplied one million metric tonnes(MT)of MoP fertiliser under government contract to Bangladesh .
