Graft , Money laundering ACC files four cases against Tarique Siddique, family

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed four separate cases on charges of corruption and money laundering against former prime minister’s security adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, his wife Shaheen Siddique, and their daughters Nurin Tasmia Siddique and Bushra Siddique.

ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in the capital on Thursday.

He stated that Tarique Ahmed Siddique amassed undeclared assets worth Tk28.59 crore and conducted suspicious transactions totalling Tk62 crore through four bank accounts in his name.

Similar charges have been brought against his wife, Shaheen Siddique, who, according to the ACC director general, acquired assets worth Tk25.76 crore beyond her husband’s known income during his government service and made suspicious transactions totalling Tk59.38 crore through 11 bank accounts.

The ACC officer said their daughters, Nurin Tasmia Siddique and Bushra Siddique, also possess significant undeclared assets—Nurin with Tk3.37 crore and Bushra with Tk4.02 crore.

The ACC found Tarique Ahmed Siddique’s assets to total Tk48.65 crore, far exceeding his allowable income of Tk20.05 crore.

Similar discrepancies were found for Shaheen, Nurin Tasmia, and Bushra Siddique, prompting the commission to file the cases.

Sources say ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya has filed the cases as the plaintiff in connection with these allegations.

Senior ACC officials said that the commission’s investigations and cases rely solely on documentary evidence, with asset values recorded in documents often much lower than their actual worth.

They estimated the market value of the Tarique family’s assets to exceed Tk200 crore.

However, since the ACC must prove the case in court, only the documented asset values have been considered.
