3 more NBR officials suspended for defying transfer order
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Thursday suspended three tax inspectors for what it stated defying their transfer orders.
A notification signed by NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan cited “insubordinate behaviour” as the reason behind the suspensions.
The suspended officials are Lokman Ahmed, Tax Inspector of Tax Zone-2, Dhaka; Ruhul Amin, Tax Inspector of Tax Zone-6, Dhaka and Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Tax Inspector of the Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit.
According to three separate NBR orders, the officials publicly tore up the transfer order issued on 22 June - an act considered defiant and disrespectful.
Their actions were deemed to support others resisting the transfers, prompting the decision to initiate departmental proceedings against them, the NBR stated.
Earlier, on Tuesday and Wednesday, 14 and eight officials and employees respectively were suspended for similar misconduct.
The government had issued transfer orders amid months-long protests by NBR employees opposing an ordinance aimed at restructuring the revenue board.
In total, 27 protesting NBR officials and employees have now been suspended.
