Committee on cards to resolve Tabligh dispute: Adviser

The government is set to form a committee with top leaders from the two rival factions of Tabligh Jamaat to permanently avoid future conflicts.

Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain said this while briefing reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Before addressing reporters, the adviser held a meeting with representatives from the two groups in a “friendly atmosphere”.

Both sides expressed differences in opinions and positions, and the government is working to reduce the tensions to a tolerable level, said AFK Khalid Hossain.

An additional secretary would lead the dispute resolution committee, he said.

Hopefully, the two sides, supporting rival Islamic preachers Maulana Saad and Maulana Jubayer, would not engage in conflict in the future, the adviser noted.

The meeting was also attended by Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for the Home Ministry Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, among others.
