National Fisheries Week begins on July 18

The National Fisheries Week will begin across the country on July 18 with a view to creating awareness among people to produce more fish through proper use of water-bodies and protect indigenous fish species from extinction.

On the second day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will officially inaugurate the week by releasing fish fries at a lake of Ganabhaban on July 19, a handout said.

The Department of Fisheries (DoF) under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has taken various programmes marking the week.

A rally will be brought out from Moithshyo Bhaban at 8 am on July 18. A five-day fair will begin at Mymensingh Fisheries Research Centre on July 20.


President Abdul Hamid will release fish fries at a pond of Bangabhaban on July 21. Besides, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will release fish fires at the lake of Jatiya Sangsad on July 22. A seminar titled, ‘Bangladesh Fisheries and Aquaculture: Potentials and

Challenges for Development and Exports/Blue Economy’ will be held at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, on July 23.

Selected people and organisations will be awarded at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in the capital on July 24 for their outstanding contribution to the country’s fisheries sector.
