MPO teachers begin work abstention from today

Protesting teachers have announced an indefinite work abstention at the MPO-enlisted private educational institutions starting from today.

Alliance for the Nationalisation of MPO-Listed Educational Institutions Member Secretary Delwar Hossain Azizi made the announcement at the Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday, urging the authorities to meet their demands, including a 20% house rent allowance on the basic salary, and protesting the attack on teachers in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Earlier, terming the government-announced house rent increase “insufficient and unrealistic,” teachers and employees of private MPO-listed educational institutions announced an indefinite sit-in in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

On Sunday afternoon, the police used water cannons and sound grenades to disperse the protesting teachers who blocked the busy road in the Press Club area for several hours.

During the demonstrations, they also announced a work abstention starting from Tuesday to press home their demands.
