Tarique Rahman exchanges greetings with journalists

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday exchanged greetings with journalists from across the country.

The event began at around 11:15am at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Sheraton in Banani, Dhaka, with the participation of editors, senior journalists and BNP leaders representing various media outlets.

Upon arrival, Tarique Rahman greeted leading newspaper editors, senior journalists and media executives, exchanging courtesies and views with them.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present alongside him during the programme.

Editors of national dailies, chief executives of electronic media outlets, senior officials of news agencies and veteran journalists took part in the greeting ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that due to prolonged political circumstances and realities, there had been no opportunity for editors, journalists and media professionals to meet or exchange greetings directly with party leader Tarique Rahman. He said the programme had been arranged by the party to bridge that gap.

After spending nearly one and a half decades in exile in the United Kingdom, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman returned to the country with his family on 25 December. Five days after his return, his mother and former prime minister Khaleda Zia passed away on 30 December.

At a BNP Standing Committee meeting held on Friday night (9 January), Tarique Rahman was formally declared chairman of the party. On the day following his assumption of office, he hosted the greeting programme with senior figures from the country’s media.
