Instead of the post of Personal Secretary to the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), the authorities are going to create a new post named ‘Military Assistant’, which would be of the rank of Colonel/Brigadier General, by re-organising the organogram of the Army Chief’s Secretariat.

As part of strengthening the Secretariat of the Chief of the Army Staff, 15 more posts in 17 categories would be created by abolishing four existing posts, including those of Personal Secretary to the CAS, Assistant Personal Secretary, which would be of the rank of Colonel, and Aid-de-camp, according to government sources.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given her consent to the creation of the 16 new posts to strengthen the CAS Secretariat, the sources said.

To create the new posts, the defence ministry has prepared a proposal, which has received the nod from the Secretary Committee on Administrative Improvement affairs in the meeting held yesterday. In the proposal, the defence secretary said that the new posts would be created to increase the formation of brigades or units of the Bangladesh Army in future.

After 28 years of reorganising the organogram of the CAS Secretariat, the authorities concerned are going to create the new posts  to implement the Forces Goal 2030, the proposal says.

Of the 16 new posts, one post of Additional Military Assistant

(operation and security) to the rank of Colonel, Additional Military Assistant (Protocol and External Affairs) to the rank of Lt. Col, Deputy Military Assistant to the rank of Major, Aid-de-camp to the rank of Major/Captain and nine other posts would be created soon, the proposal adds.

The Finance Division and the public administration ministry have already given approval to the creation of the new posts.

On June 18, the government appointed Aziz Ahmed as the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army. Aziz Ahmed, an accomplished officer, was promoted to the rank of General and took charge as the Army Chief on June 25.
