No roadside cattle market permissible during Eid-ul-Azha, says home minister Kamal


Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said the government will not permit setting up of roadside cattle markets during the Eid-ul-Azha.

“The home ministry has issued alert to monitor the fact that none can set up cattle markets in any place outside the designated areas,” he told journalists after a meeting on law and order on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha at his ministry conference room in Dhaka city yesterday.

The minister said that alternative places will be provided if it is not possible to set up cattle markets in the flood-prone areas and the district administrations have been given instructions in this regard.

He said the law enforcement agencies would strengthen their security across the country for peaceful and smooth celebration of the Eid.

Kamal instructed the law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties wearing both plain clothes as well as uniforms at cattle markets so that traders and buyers can sell and purchase sacrificial animals safely during the Eid.

Replying to a query, the minister said garment workers will get holidays in phases from August 8 onwards during the Eid-ul-Azha.

They will enjoy Eid vacation gradually from August 8, he said.

Kamal said instructions have been given to the workers for taking their leave in phases and the BGMEA and the BKMEA will coordinate the matter.

Apart from this, the minister said the government also advised the concerned garment associations as well as owners for paying workers’ salary and bonus before the Eid.

During the Eid, law enforcement agencies will remain vigilant to avert any untoward incident by securing cattle markets as well as homebound passengers, he said.

He further said law enforcement forces will ensure security in the bus and train terminals in order to prevent untoward situation and fire service and rescue teams will be deployed along the roads.

Officials concerned were present at the meeting.
