17 injured in Gazipur blast

Thirteen people suffered burns in an explosion on the ground floor of a hotel in the city’s Board Bazar area on early Sunday.

Some of the injured staff said the explosion took place at Tripty Hotel around 2am when they were getting ready to close the hotel. Seventeen people were injured in the explosion.

Four firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze, said Harun-ur-Rashid, deputy director of Gazipur Fire Service. 

Firefighters also rescued a trapped security guard from the hotel. 

It is unclear what triggered the explosion, the officer said.
