WHO suggests lockdown to curb spread of coronavirus

The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Saturday suggested the government to place the country under a partial or complete lockdown.
A WHO delegation led by the country representative Dr Bardan Jung Rana came up with the suggestion while meeting Dhaka South Mayor Sayeed Khokon at his Banani residence.
Public Relations Officer of Dhaka south Uttam Kumar Ray confirmed the matter to media.
"Coronavirus situation may get worst in the future. We have to defeat it with everything we got. There are two ways to do that. One is the government's actions," Khokon said in a briefing after the meeting.
"The second thing to do is to make our citizens aware. We can only defeat the virus if we can do both of them," he added.
Mentioning that several countries got the benefit of partial lockdown, he said, "The number of newly infected people also decreased in those countries."
"We cannot take any decision regarding lockdowns. These decisions can only come from the government level. But none of us is outside the risk. We all have to be careful about it," Dr Bardan Jung Rana said.
"We already suggested the government to avoid mass gatherings and they have already stopped some of those," he added.
