AL sells 2,286 nomination forms in two days


The ruling Awami League (AL) has sold a total of 2,286 nomination forms in two days after beginning of the nomination paper selling for the 12th parliamentary elections.

On the second day, the AL sold 1,212 nomination forms while it was 1,074 on the first day, AL Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told journalists after the sale of nomination forms on the second day at the AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in Dhaka on Sunday.

“Among them, 1,180 people directly collected the nomination forms from booths, while 32 aspirant candidates collected the forms online,” Biplab Barua said.

He said that the Awami League earned Tk 66 million (6.6 crore) through selling of those nomination papers, adding, “Tk 59 million (5.90 crore) was earned from directly sale of nomination papers, while Tk 1.6 million (16 lakh) from online sale.”

The Awami League earned Tk 114.3 million (11.43 crore) through selling of those nomination papers during the two day.

The AL office secretary said that popularity of the AL has been increased day by day, adding, “Candidate participation in local polls has been increased side by side Jatiya Sangsad elections. We expect that more or same number of nomination forms will be sold by next two days, compared to the last two days.”

Besides, AL Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud collected party nomination form for Chattogram-7 constituency.

Earlier, on Saturday morning, the sale of AL nomination forms officially started at the party’s central office. AL President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the sale of nomination papers.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated sale of nomination forms on Saturday.

Later, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, a member of the AL advisory council, first collected the party nomination form on behalf of AL President Sheikh Hasina for Gopalganj-3 constituency (Tungipara-Kotalipara).

After that, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader collected the nomination form.

AL’s nomination papers can be collected and submitted every day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm till next Tuesday (November 21).
