Quader urges candidatesFollow electoral code of conduct strictly
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday urged the party aspirants along with leaders and activists to comply with the electoral code of conduct strictly.
He made the call at a time when the Election Commission issued a show cause notice to Shakib Al Hasan, star cricketer and Awami League-nominated candidate for the Magura-1 constituency, due to poll code violation.
Shakib has also been asked to appear before the election search committee in person on Friday afternoon and reply to the notice.
Today is the last date to submit nomination papers for the 12th parliamentary election scheduled on 7 January.
Speaking at a press conference at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka this afternoon, Quader sought everyone’s cooperation to hold a fair election.
He said there will be a good election with people’s participation. “It will not be a voter-less election.”
When asked about the issue of seat-sharing with the party allies, he said Awami League will not disappoint the partners over the matter.
In another context, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the government expects that US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas will abide by the diplomatic norms.
Haas met with Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen at the State Guesthouse Padma in the capital today.
