The Election Commission (EC) has approved transfer of a total of 47 Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) as part of its efforts to hold the 12th parliamentary election in a free, fair and transparent manner.

EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed the development on Monday afternoon.

The EC approved the transfer of 47 UNOs from different parts of the country and the transfer order of 20 more UNOs has already reached the commission, he said adding over 250 UNOs will be transferred to hold the election in a free and fair manner.

On December 1, the EC instructed the Ministry of Public Administration to transfer all UNOs across the country in phases.

Before it, the EC instructed the home ministry to transfer all the officer-in-charges (OCs) at all police stations in the country to make its effort a success.

In the first phase, the UNOs, who have served more than one year at their current workplace, will be transferred.

For this, the ministry has been asked to send the first transfer proposal to the EC by December 5.
