Nusrat Tabassum withdraws from all NCP activities

Nusrat Tabassum, joint convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has declared herself inactive in all party activities, citing disillusionment with the party’s alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.

She said, “I am temporarily stepping back from all party activities during the election period, while reserving the right to reconsider and make a final decision later.”

She made the announcement in a Facebook post on Sunday night.

In her post, Tabassum said that from its inception, NCP represented her political ideals: balanced democratic practice, inclusive society, centrist policies, expansion of civilisational values, and a Bangladesh-centric approach.

She noted that these principles shaped her political dreams and were reflected in the party’s manifesto and literature.

However, she expressed disappointment over the party’s decision, ten months after its formation, to join the Jamaat-led alliance with various conditional terms.

She believes the senior leadership has deviated from NCP’s founding principles, particularly in announcing candidates for 300 constituencies.

“I believe that, under these circumstances, grassroots member -- particularly those who had taken nomination forms -- have been deceived through the announcement of this alliance,” Tabassum said.
