13th National Poll: Dhaka-13Division based on religion, ethnicity or gender won’t be tolerated: Jamaat Ameer
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has warned that no division based on religion, ethnicity or gender will be tolerated in the country.
He made the remarks on Monday while addressing an election rally in Dhaka-13.
At the event, Dr Shafiqur Rahman formally handed over the rickshaw symbol to Mamunul Haque, the Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish candidate nominated by the 11-party alliance in the constituency.
Calling for vigilance to prevent electoral fraud, the Jamaat chief said no one should be allowed to “play with the fate of the people” through manipulation or rigging.
“We want to establish a government of the people. This is not about the victory of a party; we want the victory of 180 million people,” he said.
Expressing hope that one particular party would be rejected by the electorate, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said Shadik Kayem had observed that young voters had already delivered their verdict.
Vowing to put an end to corruption, he alleged that some government bureaucrats were still engaging in partisan conduct.
“Who gave you this authority?” he asked, adding that while many had escaped accountability in the past, no one would be spared this time.
He also cautioned against creating conditions that could lead to renewed unrest. “We do not want to see July repeated again and again. No one should create an environment that leads to another July,” he said, adding, “Insha’Allah, justice will prevail.”
