COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 2 more deaths, 571 new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed two more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 571 new cases of infection testing 5,573 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 170 and the number of total infections stood at 8,238. 

Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

Some 14 patients cured in last 24 hours, increasing number of total recovered patients to 174.

"5,958 samples were collected during the time and 5,573 were tested," she said.

Dr Nasima said, "Some 175 patients were sent to isolation, 2381 to home quarantine and institutional quarantine in last 24 hours. Currently 1,522 are in isolation, 1,88,900 in home quarantine and institutional quarantine."

"Till date, a total of 614 thermal screening were conducted at different ports, including- 459 at airports, 72 at seaports and 8 at land ports in past 24 hours," she added.

As many as 74,209 hotline calls were received on three designated numbers in last 24 hours, that makes the total hotline services provided so far to 37,63,076.

Through mobile and website, 29,174 services were provided in last 24 hours, making the total to 16,26,104 by far.

The virus has killed 234,253 people globally and infected 3,318,455 so far.
