Bangladesh confirms 969 new coronavirus cases, 11 more deaths

Bangladesh confirmed 969 new coronavirus infections on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 16,660.

Meanwhile, 11 more people died of the lethal disease in the last 24 hours.  With the latest, the death toll from COVID-19 now stands at 250.

Among the fatalities, seven were male and the rest female.

Nasima Sultana, additional director general (admin) at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), disclosed the information while briefing the media live on the daily COVID-19 bulletin at 2:30pm.

The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 6,773 samples in 37 labs in the past 24 hours, she said.

Besides, the recovery count also jumped to 3,147 after 245 patients were discharged from hospitals during the period under review.

The global death toll from coronavirus has reached 287,355 as of Tuesday noon.

There have been 4,257,578 confirmed cases around the world after the highly contagious disease was first reported in China in December last, according to worldometer, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of those infected, 2,440,615 are currently being treated with 46,945 being in serious or critical condition.

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
