BD reports 50 deaths, 2856 new cases, 2,006 recovery in 24 hours


Bangladesh today confirmed 50 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,856 new cases of infection testing 12,398 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 2,801 and the number of total infections stood at 216,110. 

"Of the dead patients, 41 are men and nine women. Moreover, 20 of them are hailed from Dhaka, seven each from Rangpur and Khulna, six from Rajshahi, five from Chattogram, four from Barishal, and one from Sylhet division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today.

Forty-seven of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective homes.

According to the analysis of Covid-19 victims' age groups as of today, the highest number of patients - 45.04 percent or 1,262 - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.35 percent (822) and 14.17 percent (397). Rest of the age groups stand under seven percent, such as- 31-40 with 6.78 percent (190), 21-30 with 2.93 percent (82), 11-20 with 1.07 percent (30) and under ten with 0.64 percent (18).

The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 2,209 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 592 are females, which are 78.86% and 21.14% respectively.

District-wise, out of 2,801 fatalities till date, 48.59 percent or 1,361 are hailed from Dhaka division, 25.03 or 701 percent from Chattogram, 6.71 percent or 188 from Khulna, 5.64 percent or 158 from Rajshahi, 4.61 percent or 129 from Sylhet, 3.78 percent or 106 from Barishal, 3.57 percent or 100 from Rangpur and 2.07 percent or 58 from Mymensingh.

Dr Nasima Said, "Some 12,092 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 12,398 were tested in 80 labs across the country. So far 1,079,007 samples have been tested."

Besides, some 2,006 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 119,208.

Around 55.16 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.30 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 23.04 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 20.03 percent.

Currently, 59,591 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,859 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 360,200 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 697 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,860 after 26,341 left."

As many as 17,310,450 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 88,067 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 90 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advices, that has been availed by 115,975 people till date including 4,441 in last 24 hours.

The virus has killed 630,537 people globally and infected 15,390,221 so far.
