COVID-19 pandemicBD reports 33 more deaths, 2996 new cases


Bangladesh today confirmed 33 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,996 new cases of infection testing 14,820 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,471 and the number of total infections stood at 263,503. 

"Of the dead patients, 28 were men and five were women. Moreover, 15 of them hailed from Dhaka, five each from Rajshahi and Chittagong, four from Rangpur, three from Khulna, and one from Mymensingh division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today.

"Thirty of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective residences," she added.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19's victims shows that 79.20 percent or 2,749 of the total were men, and 20.80 percent or 722 were women.

While talking about district-wise fatalities, Dr Nasima said that: 1,654 hailed from Dhaka division, 816 from Chattogram, 268 from Khulna, 226 from Rajshahi, 158 from Sylhet, 139 from Rangpur, 134 from Barishal, and 76 from Mymensingh district.

A total of 1,535 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 151,972. 

Dr Nasima Said, "Some 15,317 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 14,820 were tested in 86 labs across the country. So far 1,287,988 samples have been tested."

Around 57.67 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.32 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 20.22 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 20.46 percent.

Currently, 52,807 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,884 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 404,801 people have completed their quarantine course.

Dr Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 863 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 19,260 after 39,085 left."

As many as 18,651,081 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 63,363 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 188,393 people till date including 1,678 in the last 24 hours.

The virus has killed 739,363 people globally and infected 20,267,512 so far.
