COVID-19: Highest daily count in 3 monthsBD reports 40 more deaths, 1,877 new cases


Bangladesh logged 40 more deaths from the novel coronavirus, the highest daily count in three months.

Earlier on 21 September, the health department reported 40 deaths from the dreaded virus.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,129, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). 

1,877 people tested positive for Covid-19, in the last 24 hours till Tuesday 8am. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 494,209.

The latest day's infection rate was 9.85 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.44 percent. The death rate stands at 1.44 percent.

2,884 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 426,729 with an 86.35 percent recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, 26 were men and 14 were women. 39 among them died in different hospitals across the country while one at home.

Moreover, 24 of them hailed from Dhaka, ten from Chattogram, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, one each from Khulna and Sylhet.

Meanwhile, 19,054 samples were tested in 140 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,005,512 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,439 of the total deceased were men and 1,690 were women.

The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
