BD reports 83 more deaths, 2,697 new cases


Bangladesh confirmed 83 more Covid-19 death in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 10,752, according to a handout released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday afternoon.

The country has recorded 2,697 new cases of the coronavirus, taking the tally to 742,400. The infection rate on Saturday further dropped to 14% in the country.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 13.11 percent, while the overall rate of detection of infected cases in Bangladesh as of Saturday stands at 13.95 percent.

Among the latest day's victims, 58 were men, and 25 were women. Of them, 81 died in different hospitals across the country while two died at home. 

Moreover, 52 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 13 from Chattogram, five from Khulna, four from Barishal, three each from Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur divisions.

The health directorate today said a total of 5,477 people were recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total recovery to 653,151.

The overall rate of people recovered as of today stands at 87.98 percent while the rate of death is 1.48 percent, it added.

A total of 20,228 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. As of Saturday, the number of samples tested in Bangladesh stands at 53,23,579.

Bangladesh detected first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death on 18 March that year.
