Churches, hotels light up on Christmas Eve

Christians round the world are all set to celebrate their annual festival, Christmas, on Saturday.

To celebrate the event, last minute preparations are underway in Dhaka’s churches and hotels as seen on Friday morning.

According to Christian beliefs, Christmas is celebrated to mark the birth of Jesus Christ on this day. He was born on earth to guide mankind to the path of truth and justice and to proclaim the glory of God.

On the occasion of his birth, like all over the world, the Christians of Bangladesh also celebrate the day with religious observances, prayers and festivities.

The day is a public holiday. The national dailies will publish special articles marking the Christmas. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private radio stations and TV channels will air special programmes marking the festival.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival was celebrated on a limited scale last year. This year more arrangements have been made but the religious leaders of the Christian community said they instructed the devotees to follow the health guidelines.

Although Christmas is on Saturday, the celebration will start on Friday evening due to large number of participants.
