Workshop on ‘Nuclear Power Plant Regulatory’ begins

A four-day workshop on “Nuclear Power Plant Regulatory Inspection Activities” began in the city today.

Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) while BAERA and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are jointly organizing the workshop, said a press release.

Addressing the inaugural function, Yeafesh Osman said all sorts of safety standards and guidelines of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and IAEA and existing laws and policies in Bangladesh have followed accurately in implementing the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project.

Opinions of experts have been taken in this regard after evaluating and reviewing all technical issues of the project by international, local and own manpower, including atomic energy agencies, he added.

The minister urged the officials concerned to work as per the guidelines.

Officials of Science and Technology Ministry, Project Director of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Dr Shawkat Akbar and other officials concerned were present in the inaugural function.

A total of 25 scientists and engineers of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project and BAERA are attending the workshop.
