PM Hasina thanks Almighty for saving Bangladesh from Fani


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah as cyclone Fani did not cause any major damage in any part of Bangladesh.

"Fani hit the country on Saturday morning. It swept through the mainland over south and south-western Jessore-Satkhira districts before turning into a depression," a media statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.

The prime minister expressed her gratitude to Allah, for His kind blessings towards the nation, the statement said, reports UNB.ertook massive preparations to face Fani under her directives, the premier being currently in London.

Special prayers were held in mosques, across the country, on Friday.

On Saturday morning, Principal Secretary Nojibur Rahman held a meeting with senior PMO officials, and reviewed the overall situation,

The participants expressed satisfaction at the preparations, undertaken by various public and private organizations, to tackle the cyclonic storm.

They also praised local public representatives, government, and private organizations, and Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP) volunteers for bringing nearly 1.2 million people from the coastal belts to cyclone shelters.

Besides, steps taken by the armed forces as well as various law enforcement agencies, including police, coastguards and Ansar-VDP, were highly praised at the meeting.

The meeting emphasized on further strengthening of Bangladesh's culture of coordinated work, by all government organizations during disasters, as it has already been recognized in the world as a role model in disaster management.

Nojibur Rahman expressed gratitude, and thanked all concerned on behalf of the prime minister. He called upon all to work together to face any disaster in the near future.

The PMO coordinated preparations for facing Fani, by cancelling weekly holidays, as per the directives of the prime minister.
