On-arrival visa on cards to woo tourists: State minister

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali has said that his ministry is in talks with the home ministry to introduce on-arrival visas to attract more tourists during the post-pandemic period.

The minister said this on Sunday at a press conference on the eve of World Tourism Day-2021.

“The government is working to formulate a tourism master plan. We hope to complete the work of the master plan by December 2022,” the minister also said at the briefing.

“The tourism industry across the world is one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. Bangladesh too had to close tourist spots for a long time, the minister said.

However, domestic tourism is now slowly turning around, and the industry is gaining its momentum back, he added.

This year's tourism day theme is ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth’.

The day aims to make the world aware of social, cultural, political and economic importance of tourism; and to achieve Sustainable Development Goals; and the contribution of tourism to the national economy.

On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the President and the Prime Minister delivered separate speeches.

World Tourism Day has been celebrated on September 27 every year since 1980.
