Salman F Rahman granted bail in cheque dishonour case

A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to Salman F Rahman, former adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and vice-chairman of Beximco Group, in a check dishonor case involving Tk112 crore.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after a hearing, granting him bail on Tk1,000 a bond, said defense counsel Mohaddesul Amin.

Earlier, on 9 January, Ujjal Mondal, in favor of the Export Import Bank of Bangladesh PLC (EXIM Bank), filed the case against the five companies and 10 individuals.

The other accused are-- Ahmed Shayan Fazlur Rahman, Mahfuzur Rahman, Imran Maqbol, Md Lutfor Rahman, Ms. Mashkura Khanam, Md Saifur Rahman, Abu Nayeem Mahmud Salehin, Md Mostafizur Rahman Tanvir, and ASF Rahman.

The companies named in the case are Beximco LPG Unit-1 Limited, Escorp Holdings Limited, SFR Holdings Ltd., ASR Holdings Limited and Beximco Holdings Limited.

According to the complaint, a Tk112 crore check has been issued in favor of EXIM Bank by Beximco LPG Unit-1 Limited. The said check was dishonored for "Insufficient Fund" after it was presented at the Head Office Corporate Branch of EXIM Bank on 19th November, 2025.

It is also alleged in the complaint that a legal notice has been sent to the accused by registered post dated 26 November 2025, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, for payment of the check amount within 30 days.

However, the accused allegedly failed to make the payment within the specified time.
