Thirty-four Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya and Teknaf were locked down Wednesday afternoon to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

Police and army personnel are working in the district to ensure that everyone follows the lockdown protocols.

Cox's Bazar's Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Md Mahbub Alam Talukder said, "Movements in the Rohingya camps were already controlled to some extent as a preventive measure. But we have now instructed the authorities concerned to maintain lockdown in the camps."

He also said that necessary activities in the camps will continue as before.

So far 20 people have died from the virus in Bangladesh and 218 are infected with it.
