Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into corruptions and land grabbing allegedly committed by lawmaker from Manikganj-1 constituency Naimur Rahman Durjoy.
The bribes earned by him from job-seekers amount to Tk 300 crore, apart from grabbed lands in the locality, say the complainants.
Reliable sources said the ACC started primary investigation into allegations against the MP.
The anti-graft body will take next course of action after getting the investigation report.
According to the complaints received by the commission, Naimur Rahman Durjoy earned Tk 300 crore in bribes from job-seekers. He collected the money by assuring people of securing jobs. Besides, he grabbed lands in various places.
Lawmaker from Manikganj-1 was involved in lifting sands from the Aricha Ghat area using dredger of BIWTA. He stored the sand lifted spending government money at an abandoned brickfield and sold it off.
Now, Manikganj Ghat is on the brink of erosion following extraction of sand by the MP.
Durjoy allegedly formed an active gang comprising his relatives to occupy lands in his constituency.
Tayebur Rahman Tipu, a relative of the MP, is controlling the land trading gang. No piece of land can be sold or bought by anybody in the area without consent of Tipu. Besides, the land buyers have to pay extortion to Durjoy based on the volume of land.
Naimur Rahman Durjoy also collects bribes from contractors in Shibaloy, Ghior and Daulatpur upazilas. Several contractors submitted written allegations to the ACC accusing him of committing bribery. His wife has also established reign over the land office, grabbed over hundred bighas of land and amassed huge properties.
Sources at the ACC claimed that properties of Naimur Rahman Durjoy have inflated eight times in eight years of being MP. He did not mention sources of earning of his wife in the affidavit. It is a punishable offence under the ACC law.
Malaysia is allegedly the second home of the lawmaker from Manikganj-1.ACC sources said the commission will take necessary legal steps against the MP after getting prima facie truth.
