Manufacturing imports in Bangladesh may post lower growth both in terms of value and volume in the current fiscal year.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP, also known as ESCAP) made the projection in its annual flagship publication ‘Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2018’ released on Monday in Bangkok.
It projected that imports growth in value and volume terms would be 3.8 per cent and 5.4 per cent respectively in FY18.
Bangladesh Bank statistics, however, showed that the country’ import in the first eight months of the current fiscal year registered 26 per cent growth in value terms.
ESCAP also projected that import growth in the next fiscal year will be almost similar to the current fiscal’s projected rate.
