The Hindu Mahasabha has called for a strike in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior on October 6, the day when an India-Bangladesh Twenty20 match is scheduled to be held in the city, in protest against “atrocities” on Hindus in the neighboring country, reports Indian Express.

The Indian Express added that the group’s national vice president Jaiveer Bharadwaj alleged that Hindus have been “persecuted in Bangladesh” and that “temples were destroyed”.

“We will not allow the match to take place here. It has been decided in our meeting that when the Bangladesh team come to Gwalior to play the match, we will protest,” he said.

The Hindu Mahasabha has given a call for “Gwalior strike” on the day of the match, but there will be no ban on essential commodities, he said.

Senior police officers from Gwalior district have assured that all security arrangements are in place to ensure law and order is maintained.

“We have made arrangements. This is not a big group that will threaten the law and order situation in the city. Adequate measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the people,” an officer said.

The match on October 6 is slated to be the first international cricket game to be held in Gwalior in 14 years – the last took place in 2010.

It is scheduled to take place at Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 30,000.

An official from Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association said: “As per the police’s estimation, this is not a major threat. Last month, too, they made this threat. As a precaution, there are some upgraded security measures to make sure there is no untoward incident or damage to the facility.”
