A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of income tax records of former minister Farhad Hossain (53), his wife Syeda Monalisa Islam (43), and Md Abdus Sobhan (50), a cartographer in the ATM division of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following three separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Khorshed Alam submitted applications seeking the seizure of tax records of Farhad Hossain and his wife, while Assistant Director Md Mahbub Morshed filed a separate application concerning Abdus Sobhan.
According to the petition, Farhad Hossain is accused of amassing assets worth Tk1.11 crore through illegal means by abusing his position in public office for personal gain, inconsistent with his known sources of income. The petition also alleges suspicious transactions through 12 bank accounts in his name.
In a separate petition, his wife Syeda Monalisa Islam is alleged to have colluded with her husband in acquiring assets worth Tk94.05 lakh through abuse of power and financial influence, also inconsistent with known sources of income.
Md Abdus Sobhan, according to the ACC, is accused of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income and concealing asset information with dishonest intent.
The ACC stated in its applications that cases have already been filed against the accused over these allegations and that the seizure of their income tax records is necessary for a proper investigation.
