Sergio Gor, Dinesh Trivedi hold meeting in Dhaka

Discussions come as Washington steps up regional outreach and ahead of envoy's scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor held talks with India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, in Dhaka on Friday, as the United States continued a series of high-level diplomatic engagements during the envoy's three-day visit to Bangladesh.

The meeting took place at a hotel in the capital, diplomatic sources said.

While neither side disclosed details of the discussions, officials said the two diplomats exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, reflecting ongoing consultations between Washington and New Delhi on regional developments.

The meeting follows Gor's congratulatory message to Trivedi on 25 June, shortly after the Indian diplomat assumed his new role in Dhaka.

"As the US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, I look forward to working closely with you," Gor said at the time.

Part of Broader Diplomatic Visit

Ambassador Gor arrived in Dhaka on 30 July and held discussions with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guest house Padma, focusing on bilateral and regional issues, according to officials.

On Friday, the US envoy travelled to Cox's Bazar, where he visited Rohingya refugee camps to assess the humanitarian situation and ongoing international assistance efforts..

The visit comes as the United States continues to strengthen its engagement with South Asia through dialogue on regional stability, humanitarian issues and economic partnerships, while Bangladesh remains an important strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

Friday's meeting between the US special envoy and India's top diplomat in Dhaka underscores continued diplomatic coordination among key regional stakeholders at a time of evolving geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.

Sergio Gor arrived in Dhaka on 30 July and later held talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the state guest house Padma.

On Friday, he visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar as part of his three-day visit to Bangladesh.

On the final day of his visit (Saturday), he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Although the official agenda has not been made public, the meeting is expected to cover Bangladesh-US bilateral relations, regional security, economic cooperation and other issues of shared interest, diplomatic sources said.
