Fuel prices have increased slightly in the country: Energy Minister
Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku stated on Sunday, April 19, 2026, that the government has implemented a minimal price hike on fuel to shield citizens from the full impact of global market volatility.
He noted that while international fuel prices have nearly doubled since the onset of the conflict, leading to an additional $2 billion in import costs, the government has chosen to absorb the majority of this financial burden through subsidies.
Under the new adjustments, Diesel is now priced at BDT 115, Octane at BDT 140, and Petrol at BDT 135 per liter. The Minister emphasized that these measures are essential to maintain economic stability and minimize public suffering despite significant pressure on the national treasury.
