Five more die of COVID-19 in BD, 564 test positive in 24hrs: DGHS

Five more people died from coronavirus (COVID-19) in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Thursday, (COVID-19), according to the DGHS official.

With the latest victims, the death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 168, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Among the five deceased, three were male and two female, she added.

Besides, 564 more people tested positive for the highly infectious disease during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 7,667, Dr Nasima said.

Prof Dr Nasima came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin at the Management Information System (MIS) in the afternoon.

On the 54th day after Bangladesh registered the first case of such infection on March 08, ten more people have recovered. With this, a total of 160 people have so far made recovery.

On Wednesday, eight people died and 641 people tested positive for the COVID-19.

Coronavirus, first reported in China, has so far infected 3,230,433 people globally and killed 228,394 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of the infected, 1,994,903 are currently being treated while 59,800 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
