UP member shot dead in Rangamati

A union parishad member was gunned down by criminals at Bonjogichhora in Jurachari upazila on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Hemanta Chakma.

Quoting witnesses Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Jurachari upazila nirbahi officer, said a gang of criminals attacked Hemanta and opened fire when he went to one of his relatives house around 11pm.

He died on the spot.

Police have recovered the body.

According to locals, Hemanta was once an active member of United People's Democratic Front. After leaving the organisation, he came back ito normal life and was elected as UP member.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.
