Robbing pharmacies in Dhaka: Key suspect killed in 'gunfight

The prime suspect of two cases filed for robbing multiple pharmacies in Dhaka was killed in a reported gunfight with DB police in Mohammadpur’s Bosila area in the capital on Monday night .

The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain Titu.
Earlier, DB police arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in recent robberies where multiple pharmacies in Dhaka were looted by masked men with guns, taking advantage of the coronavirus forced government holiday.

The arrested are –Shohel, 36, Sohrab, 30, Nawaj, 30, Shahin, 22, and Raju, 25.

DB’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Anisuddin said gleaning information from the detainees; DB conducted a raid in Bosila area to arrest Ali Hossain Titu. Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, he claimed. The team of DB found a body from the spot.

Taking advantage of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, wearing masks and carrying guns, the suspects robbed Billah Pharma in Mohammadpur on April 1 and an outlet of Lazz Pharma in Khilgaon on April 5, working in two separate groups.

Earlier on April 4, a gang wearing coronavirus protective masks robbed a pharmacy in Mohammadpur, stealing a laptop and looting the cash register after beating up a customer.
