ACC finds 62 people linked to PK Halder’s graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found the involvement of 62 people with the corruption committed by former NRB Global Bank Managing Director Prashanta Kumar Halder.

ACC secretary M Anwar Hossain Hawlader came up with the information on Thursday while talking to reporters at the commission’s headquarters in the capital.

PK Halder who fled abroad in last year amid allegations of embezzling and laundering around Tk 30 billion is now staying in Canada.

He is facing an allegation of embezzling over Tk 30 billion, which he took out as loans from different financial institutions in the name of companies owned by him and his family members.

Teaming the investigation against PK Halder is a huge matter, the ACC secretary said: “We found involvement of 62 people with the thousand crores of money embezzlement by PK Halder and the commission has already quizzed some of them.”

He also informed that the anti-graft body has so far seized Tk 10.57 billion from the 62 people in connection with the corruption.

About illegal wealth of PK Halder’s aide Abontika Boral, Anwar Hossain said: “ACC will interrogate Abontika to see how much illegal wealth she amassed with the help of PK Halder.”

ACC on January 8 last year filed a case against PK Halder on charges of amassing about Tk 2.75 billion beyond the known sources of income and money laundering.

During the investigation of the case, ACC found the involvement of many people with the corruption of PK Halder. ACC on Wednesday arrested Abontika Boral, a close aide of PK Halder while the commission on January 4, arrested PK Halder’s another aide Shankha Bepary following hours of quizzing at the ACC headquarters in the capital.

On January 5, the High Court slapped an international travel ban on 25 people, including Abontika and Shankha Bepary, for their alleged connection with PK Halder.

International Criminal Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, issued a red notice against Halder on Friday following a request from Bangladesh.
