HC upholds bail of JMI chairman fake N-95 mask case

The High Court (HC) upheld a lower court order on Tuesday allowing bail to JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing Ltd Chairman Abdur Razzak, in a case lodged over supplying fake N-95 masks.

A High Court division virtual bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order, discharging a rule issued against the bail order.

“The court has discharged the rule, upholding the lower court bail for Abdur Razzak,” Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi, counsel of the accused.

Advocates MK Rahman and Nahid Sultana Juthi argued for the JMI Chairman while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan took part in the hearing for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Deputy Attorney AKM Amin Uddin appeared for the state.

The High Court on November 30, 2020, issued the rule asking as to why it shall not scrap the lower court order granting bail to Abdur Razzak in the case. The court had come up with the order after holding a hearing on a petition of the ACC.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge court on October 15, 2020, granted bail to Razzak.

Deputy Director of the ACC Md Nurul Huda filed the case on September 29 against six officials of Central Medical Store Depot (CMSD) and JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing Ltd Chairman Abdur Razzak.
