Helena Jahangir’s case shifted to DB

A case filed against the suspended Awami League leader Helena Jahangir under the Digital Security Act was shifted to Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police from Gulshan Police Station on Sunday.

The officer-in-charge of the police station handed over the case to DB Cyber and Special Crime Division in the afternoon, said Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, deputy commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Crime Division of the DMP.

In the meantime, Helena was shown arrest in two other cases—one was filed with the police station under the Drugs Act and another with Pallabi Police Station under the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Act.

The DC said that Helena, who is now on a three-day remand, was also handed over to the DB police. Sunday was the second day of her three-day remand, he added.

A team of the RAB raided Helena’s residence at Gulshan-2 at about 8:30 pm on Thursday and arrested her midnight.

The force seized foreign liquor, walkie-talkie, foreign currencies, casino items and deer hide from her house.

On Friday, she was put on a three-day remand after the businesswoman was produced before a Dhaka court.
