Five arrested for gang-raping housemaid in Savar

Police on Tuesday arrested five people from different areas of Savar in connection with a case filed for gang-raping a housemaid.

The arrestees are Miraz Sardar, 32, son of Azhar Sardar of Rajbari district, Moktar Hossain, son of Mahmud of Kurigram district, Mahbub, 42, son of Nurul Haq of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district, Moti Gomosta, 55, son of Akkas Ali of Agoiljhara in Barishal district and Rafiqul Islam, 24, son of Joynal Abedin of Ulipur in Kurigram district.

Tipped off, a team of police conducted drives in different areas of Savar and arrested them in the night, said FM Sayed, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.

According to the case statement, the victim used to work as a domestic help in Genda area. On March 10, Miraz took the woman to the house of another accused Moktar Hossain alluring her of giving a job at a garments factory. Later, Miraz along with four others raped the woman in terms.

Later, the victim filed a case with Savar Model Police Station.
