Ex-OC Moazzem to be held anytime: Kamal

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said former officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Police Station Moazzem Hossain will be arrested anytime.

“Ex-OC Moazzem is now in the country… All exits have been shutdown and
he will be arrested soon,” Kamal told journalists while inaugurating the
innovation and showcasing fair at the auditorium of the Department of Prisons
at Bakshibazar.

Replying to a question, the minister said action will be taken against
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mizanur Rahman for allegedly giving bribe to
an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official.

Security Services Division Secretary M Shahiduzzaman chaired the opening
session of the fair while IG Prison Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin,
Director General of Department of Immigration and Passports Major General M
Shohail Hossain Khan, Director General of Department of Narcotics Control M
Jamal Uddin Ahmed and Director General of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil
Defence Brigadier General Md Sazzad Hussain were present, among others.

Asked about the arrest of former OC Moazzem Hossain, the minister said all
escape routes have been closed. “Moazzem can’t escape anywhere and he’ll be
arrested soon,” he said.

Kamal said Moazzem will face punishment for his role in the murder of
madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

About DIG Mizanur Rahman, the minister questioned why he (DIG Mizan) gave
bribe to the ACC official? “Bribery is an offence for both, who gives and
receives bribes. Mizan has certainly a weakness for which he wants to cover
by giving bribe,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ACC suspended its Director Khandaker Enamul Basir on Monday
for breaching service rules.
